What Are AS9100 Certified Machining Services?

AS9100 (Revision D), maintained by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG), is the standardized Quality Management System for organizations operating in the aviation, space, and defense industries

The standard builds upon the ISO 9001 foundation and adds nearly 100 additional requirements specific to product safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. OEMs and prime contractors throughout the aerospace supply chain require AS9100 certification from their suppliers as a condition of doing business.

This means demonstrating compliance in areas such as:

  • Risk Management: Proactive identification and mitigation of risks throughout the manufacturing process to prevent failure modes.
  • Traceability: Complete documentation of material pedigree, from the raw metal mill to the final machined component.
  • First Article Inspection (FAI): Rigorous validation of the initial production run to ensure the manufacturing process consistently meets engineering drawings.
  • Counterfeit Prevention: Strict controls to ensure no unapproved or sub-standard materials enter the supply chain.

Why We Excel as an AS9100-Certified Manufacturer

Nyalt was founded in 2004 and earned our ISO 9001 certification in 2005. We achieved the more demanding AS9100 certification in 2010. This perfect and long track record qualifies us to serve Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs operating in highly regulated aerospace and defense sectors.

The process begins with 3D modeling and prototyping to validate geometries before production. Custom precision grinding achieves surface finishes and tolerances that standard CNC milling cannot. Our individual component and full assembly services deliver ready-to-use components with in-process inspections at multiple stages.

Machining Difficult Materials with Aerospace Precision

Aerospace components often require Heat Resistant Super Alloys (HRSA) that work-harden rapidly and generate excessive heat during cutting. These properties cause tool failure and workpiece damage in shops without the right equipment and expertise. We machine HRSA materials daily using high-pressure coolant systems that control cutting-zone temperatures and protect both the tool and the workpiece.

Our facility runs rigid, high-horsepower CNC machines from Makino and Okuma to process Inconel (718/625/939), titanium, stainless steels (AMS specifications), high-strength steels (17-4 PH, 15-5 PH), AMS 407 aluminum, and Rene 77 (R77). Our machinists develop custom toolpaths in Mastercam with cutting strategies tailored to each part’s geometry and material properties. Advanced carbide and ceramic cutting tools handle extreme heat and abrasion, ensuring the final part conforms exactly to print.

Achieving Micron-Level Tolerances in Critical Components

Our CNC machining centers hold tolerances as tight as 5 microns (0.0002″). CNC turning machines with live tooling and Okuma OSP controllers provide the stability and precision required for complex aerospace geometries. This capability allows us to produce intricate components that meet the tight dimensional requirements of aviation and defense applications.

Some projects require tolerances beyond what CNC milling and turning alone can achieve. Our grinding department reaches tolerances down to 2 microns (0.00008″) depending on material, with all precision grinding performed in a climate-controlled environment to prevent thermal expansion from affecting dimensional accuracy. We validate this level of precision using in-process measurement systems, such as the Renishaw Primo Twin Probe.

Complete Traceability and Part Identification

AS9100 requires that every part be traceable back to the raw material batch. We maintain full documentation from raw material sourcing through final inspection for every project. This documentation provides the objective evidence required by auditors and OEM quality departments.

Permanent marking is essential for lifecycle tracking in aerospace and defense applications. We use CNC machining and laser engraving to directly identify parts. This ensures each part can be identified and tracked throughout its entire operational life.

Nyalt Goes Beyond “Machine & Ship” Services

We offer a wide range of value-added services that support aerospace and defense manufacturing requirements, all while adhering to AS9100 standards for quality, documentation, repeatability, and traceability.

Custom Tooling and Fixture Design

Standard clamping solutions are often insufficient for complex aerospace geometries. We design and manufacture customized jigs and fixtures in-house to address this challenge. This ensures each part is held rigidly and correctly for the specific geometry being machined, improving both accuracy and repeatability.

Manufacturing the part is only half the challenge—verifying it is the other half. We manufacture custom inspection gages to verify unique features that standard measurement tools cannot assess. This ensures our inspection process is as precise and repeatable as the machining process itself.

Streamlining Supply Chains with Inventory Management

OEMs prefer suppliers who can manage inventory flow rather than just delivering parts in bulk. We offer inventory control services to align with customer forecasts and On-Time Delivery (OTD) requirements. This reduces storage costs and administrative burden for our customers.

High-precision parts with critical surfaces can be damaged during shipping if not packaged correctly. We design customized packaging solutions to protect components during transit. This ensures parts arrive at your facility in the exact condition they left our inspection room.

Other Value Added Services

  • Complete Assemblies: Capabilities to deliver individual components or fully assembled units.
  • Laser Welding: Precision joining capabilities for complex assemblies.
  • Part Identification: Laser engraving and CNC machining for serialization and tracking.
  • Full Traceability: End-to-end documentation from raw material sourcing to the final product.
  • Customized Packaging and Shipping: Protection of precision components during transit.
  • Inventory Control: Management of stock to meet customer forecasts and On-Time Delivery (OTD) needs.

AS9100 Certified Machine Shop in Singapore

AS9100 certified machining services require more than a certificate on the wall. They demand the equipment, expertise, and quality systems to deliver consistent results, which we have built our shop around since earning certification in 2010.

At Nyalt, we operate as a manufacturing partner rather than a transactional vendor. Our goal is to simplify your supply chain while meeting the strict demands of aerospace and defense programs.
